Everyone needs an escape, and cycling enthusiasts tend to cover more ground during their escapes than most. Fortunately for you—whether you love to cycle, or you really don’t love to cycle, but you happen to love somebody who came with a bicycle attached to their personality—Norfolk offers an ideal countryside retreat to suit everybody.

The newly celebrated Rebellion Way cycling route offers a thrilling 232-mile cycling route through some of Norfolk’s most iconic landmarks and unforgettable scenery. It has also been specifically designed to be “not just achievable, but enjoyable for riders of all levels.”

What You Need to Know

The Rebellion Way starts in the historic city of Norwich and winds its way through the Norfolk Broads, along coastal paths, and through picturesque countryside. The entire route is 232 miles, or 373km, but it is a mix of quiet, mostly flat back roads, byways, bridleways, and cycle paths, making it a wonderful introduction to multi-day cycling adventures.

Cycling UK has worked with Experience Community to test-ride the Rebellion Way route with a handcycle and a trailer, creating a slightly different route where needed to ensure that it is doable for all riders. This route can be found here

Highlights of the Route

Beautiful Landscapes: Norfolk's terrain is perfect for cyclists, featuring flat and gently rolling landscapes that offer stunning views at every turn. From the expansive Norfolk Broads to the serene countryside, the scenery is breathtaking.

Historical Sites: The Rebellion Way is rich in history, with iconic landmarks such as Norwich Castle along the way and plenty of stately homes and gardens, including Blickling Estate, the precious home of Anne Boleyn’s family, and Sandringham, the royal residence.

Nature and Wildlife: Norfolk is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, from the wonders of Thetford Forest to the famous Norfolk lavender fields, from tranquil waterways to classic English seaside towns. Depending on your speed, rest stops, and eyesight, you may spot birds, deer, and other local wildlife on your route.
